Our Goats

Goat meat, also known as chevon, offers several unique benefits. Firstly, it is a lean protein source that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol, making it a healthier alternative to other meats. Additionally, goat meat contains essential nutrients like iron, zinc, and vitamin B12, which are crucial for maintaining good health. Furthermore, the distinctive flavor of goat meat adds variety to your culinary repertoire, allowing you to experiment with different recipes and cuisines. Lastly, goat meat is considered a more sustainable option compared to beef or pork, as goats require less land, water, and food to raise. So, indulging in delicious goat meat not only satisfies your taste buds but also contributes to a more balanced and sustainable food ecosystem.

Dairy goats are a popular choice among farmers and homesteaders for their milk production. These goats are specifically bred for their ability to produce high-quality milk, which is rich in nutrients and delicious in taste. Dairy goats are known for their docile nature and adaptability, making them relatively easy to raise and care for.

One of the primary advantages of dairy goats is their milk’s versatility. It can be consumed fresh, used for making various types of cheese, yogurt, butter, and even ice cream. The milk from dairy goats is often preferred by those with lactose intolerance, as it contains lower levels of lactose compared to cow’s milk.

When it comes to milk production, dairy goats can typically produce around two to three quarts of milk per day. This can vary depending on the breed, diet, and management practices. Some popular dairy goat breeds include the Saanen, Alpine, Nubian, and LaMancha. We have Mini Nubians and a LaMancha cross on our farm. We use the milk ourselves as well as supplementing orphaned or abandoned livestock.
